The wire harness industry is highly concentrated

The relationship between the upstream and downstream of the wire harness industry chain is relatively simple. Midstream cable manufacturers purchase copper and other metals for wire drawing, cable wiring and other processes. Downstream wire harness manufacturers produce cables and crimp and bundle connectors and cables to form wire harnesses. The downstream wire harness industry is highly concentrated and has a large room for domestic substitution. Automakers, especially global automobile brands, usually implement high standards and strict requirements for supplier management, and the supplier system is relatively closed. In the automotive wire harness industry, a small number of foreign-owned and joint venture automotive wire harness enterprises have occupied a large portion of the market share for a long time, forming an oligopoly competition. In 2020, the CR3 of the wire harness industry was 70.9% and the CR5 was 81.7%, which was a high concentration. With the rise of domestic independent brands, domestic OEMs are gradually switching suppliers to local brands, leaving the wire harness industry with a large room for domestic substitution.
